February 5 - GAC USA has begun construction work on a brand new office and warehouse facility in Houston, Texas.
The 181,067 sq ft (16,822 sq m) facility, due for completion in July 2013, will bring GAC USA's local and regional executives, multiple business areas and staff members under a single roof.
GAC USA's import and export customers will enjoy cost savings due to the facility's location within a designated free trade zone (FTZ), in addition to its close proximity to George Bush Intercontinental airport.
The US Customs Border Patrol has also accredited GAC as a C-TPAT certified member - an accolade only awarded to companies who pass stringent security measures.
"Our new warehouse represents GAC's long-term commitment to customers in Houston who benefit from our local presence and capabilities to deliver their needs globally," commented Lars Heisselberg, GAC group vice president Americas. He added that the new facility will be a key part of GAC USA's strategy to strengthen its services particularly to energy sector clients in the Houston area.
GAC's warehouse in Laredo, Texas will continue to operate as a separate facility for oil and gas customers who require daily cross-border transport into Mexico.
