June 11 - Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has handed over RollDock Storm to Dutch shipping company RollDock bv for immediate worldwide operation in the transport of specialised heavy cargo and project loads.
RollDock Storm is the sister ship of RollDock Star, which HLPFI reported had been launched for RollDock on January 31, 2014.
RollDock Storm is a 151.5 m long and 8,000 dwt multifunctional ship designed to transport heavy loads that do not fit traditional cargo transport moulds.
The vessel features two 700-tonne capacity cranes, and allows for cargoes of up to 3,000 tonnes to be loaded via the ro-ro method, as well as be floated in and out of the ship.
RollDock Star has recently carried a floating pavilion from Amsterdam to Gibraltar, a river cruise ship from Fos to Bordeaux and a submarine from Kaliningrad to Vietnam.
"Ships like this, as well as individual offshore ships, are now the future of FSG and follow on from our success in the ro-ro sector," said FSG chief, Peter Sierk.
