Forth Ports Group has received development consent from the UK’s secretary of state for transport to build Tilbury2 - a port terminal adjacent to the current 930 acre (376.4 ha) site in Thurrock.
Construction is scheduled to commence in a matter of weeks, said Forth Ports, which anticipates the project to cost in excess of GBP200 million (USD261.6 million).
Tilbury2 will be built on a site covering 150 acres (60.7 ha) and will feature rail and road connections, a deepwater jetty and pontoon, as well as a ro-ro ferry terminal.
