September 13 - The first ship has called at Pier 80 since Pasha Automotive Services was awarded a 15-year lease to operate the 69 acre (27.9 ha) terminal by the Port of San Francisco in May 2016.
HLPFI reported on May 18 that the US port had approved the 15-year agreement for Pasha to provide cargo handling and other terminal services at Pier 80.
Pasha Hawaii's Jean Anne became the first ship to call at the terminal since it has been taken over, but Pasha noted that it is still negotiating deals with manufacturers to bring cargoes to Pier 80.
John Pasha, senior vice president of Pasha Automotive Services, noted that the company hopes to attract 96 ships a year and handle 150,000 automobiles annually.
He added that Pasha aims to transform the "under-utilised pier" into a maritime facility, in order to serve customers and create local jobs.
