February 5 - The Port of Corpus Christi has completed its La Quinta Channel Extension Project, which has extended the La Quinta Ship Channel by approximately 2.25 km to a depth of 12.5 m below mean low tide.

The extension will enhance the economy of the region by providing deep channel access to the port's La Quinta Gateway project, as well as providing support to the development of the La Quinta Terminal; voestalpine Texas Holding's HBI production plant; TPCO American Corp's steel pipe mill in Gregory, Texas; Cheniere Energy's proposed gas processing plant; and the Gulf Compress cotton storage facility.

"As we continue to develop strategic business partnerships with companies from around the world, the completion of the dredging of the La Quinta Channel extension marks a step forward in providing the infrastructure needed to support the port's diversification of cargo efforts," said Judy Hawley, commission chair at the Port of Corpus Christi.
