February 4 - The Port of Everett has signed a contract with Green Funnel Agency (GFA) to serve as the gateway's Midwest agent and to help generate additional cargo opportunities.
Based in New Buffalo, Michigan, GFA specialises in the movement of high and heavy cargo.
On behalf of the Port of Everett, GFA representative Vincent Sullivan will work with the railroad and other companies to identify westbound boxcar cargo opportunities from the Midwest to the port. He will also actively seek project cargo business from the freight forwarding community, said the port.
Carl Wollebek, chief operating officer for the Port of Everett, explained that a large part of the gateway's cargo mix is high and heavy export cargoes that originate from the Midwest.
"Having a presence in the Midwest will allow us to maximise our market exposure and better communicate the advantages of moving cargo through the Port of Everett," added Wollebek.
