September 28 - The general cargo vessel Salta, operated by GMB Maritime Liner Services, was loaded to capacity with breakbulk cargo at Euroports' terminal at the Port of Antwerp.
Salta, bound for various ports in the Middle East and the Far East, was loaded with 53,000 tonnes of cargo, with a total volume of 64,000 cu m. The cargo included 30,000 tonnes of steel slabs, which were loaded elsewhere, 8,000 tonnes of steel coils, 20,000 cu m of cast-iron pipes, 6,000 tonnes of pulp in bales and reels, along with a few smaller shipments of steel.
This was possible due to the new 18 m deep Kieldrecht Lock in Antwerp, says Euroports.
At its terminal in Antwerp, which has a storage capacity of 1 million tonnes, Euroports handles a large range of cargoes including paper products, steel, wind turbines and fruit.
