November 30 - Enerpac Heavy Lifting Technology has supplied Holtec International, a diversified energy technology company, with a self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT).
The SPMT600 is used to move spent nuclear fuel, sealed in Holtec-supplied double wall, multipurpose canisters and placed within HI-STORM casks, to EDF Energy's dry store at the Sizewell B nuclear facility in the UK.
According to Enerpac, its slim design and low height makes it ideal for operating in confined spaces, while providing 360 degree steering.
Holtec's SPMT600 comprises five trailers and two hydraulic power packs. In total, one three-axle trailer can support loads up to 60 tonnes, and is controlled using the wireless Intelli-Drive remote controller.
In addition to handling HI-STORM casks, the SPMT600 will be used for the transport of other heavy ancillary pieces of equipment.
