The equipment, which was manufactured in Siegen about 140 km from the airport, had a total weight of 29.5 tonnes including its transport frame and case.
On arrival at the airport, a security check was carried out, before two 50-tonne capacity cranes lifted the drum from its flatbed truck onto the loading ramp, and then into the aircraft. The operation was managed by Düsseldorf Airport Cargo.
The transport was organised by Panalpina Energy Solutions.
Thomas Schürmann, Düsseldorf Airport Cargo's marketing and sales manager, commented: "We were pleased to receive this challenging charter request from Panalpina as although we are well known for our unrivalled bellyhold cargo capacity to and from some 190 destinations, we are also very skilled and experienced in handling freighters, especially the difficult specialist shipments such as this one."
