July 7 - Van der Vlist has arranged the shipment of an enormous geotechnical drilling tower, from its manufacturer in the Netherlands to Hong Kong, writes Isabel Freedman.
The drilling rig, which weighed 250 tonnes, had to be dismantled before shipment. Even after being dismantled, it could not be moved by road and so was barged to Rotterdam.
The pieces were to travel directly to a shipyard in Hong Kong, but due to draft restrictions, could not be delivered using a liner vessel so were shipped by a chartered vessel from Rotterdam.
Customs was arranged in the arrival port, and following this the drilling rig pieces were unloaded using the ship's gear onto the quay.
