May 8 - Donau Star has revealed that it will launch a new ro-ro ferry service connecting Romania and Germany along the Danube River under the Star Lines banner.
The Star Lines regular service will connect Passau in southeast Germany to Ruse, just south of Bucharest, via Vidin in Bulgaria.
Intermediate ports of call include Enns, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Turnu Severin, and Vidin. The service will be extended as far as Constanta and Reni, should sufficient demand exist.
Two ro-ro vessels - Jumbo One and Jumbo Two - will operate on the new service. Each vessel is capable of handling loads 70 m long by 19.5 m wide. The maximum permissible load on the ro-ro ramp is 92-tonnes, with a maximum load on deck of 10 tonnes per sq m.
Sailings are expected to commence in June 2015.
