August 16 - DB Schenker Logistics has opened its brand new EUR13 million (USD17.35 million) logistics centre in Zwevegem, Belgium.

DB Schenker will be able to offer customers in the Belgian provinces of West and East Flanders and Hainault faster connections to European and world markets.

"With over 5,000 sq m of space for operations and 2,900 sq m of office space, the new facility provides optimum conditions for high-quality services and future growth," says Ulrich Pütz, head of Schenker NV.

The 36,000 sq m site incorporates the latest logistics infrastructure and environmentally friendly technologies, such as solar panels, sensor-controlled lighting and service water recycling. 70 bays can accommodate a wide range of vehicles, including trucks and widebody vehicles. The location also has its own air freight team, with a daily shuttle connecting to Brussels airport.

The site's 120 employees previously worked at two sites in Waregen, approximately 10 km away.

"With 40 regular scheduled transports daily, we connect the Flanders region quickly and reliably to all destinations in Europe," says Pascal Duhamel, who heads the new DB Schenker facility in Zwevegem.
