January 21 - Experts from DB Schenker Logistics specialising in trade fair and special transports have conveyed the biggest yacht to be displayed at "boot 2011" along the Rhine to hall 6 of D
27 m in length and weighing 71 tonnes, the Sunseeker 88 will be the star attraction at the world's largest water sports exhibition which starts tomorrow.
Experts from Schenker Deutschland AG are moving yachts directly from the River Rhine using the exhibition centre's own special crane "Big Willi", Europe's biggest mobile boat lift, before transporting them to "boot 2011".
The company is loading motorboats, sailboats and catamarans onto special low-loaders, positioning them accurately, and transporting them to the exhibition centre with heavy haulage truck tractors.
Ulrich Zähres, head of Trade Fairs/Special Transports at Schenker Deutschland AG in Düsseldorf says: "Transports of this kind are organised at least half a year in advance, and we don't let floods, ice or snow interfere with our plans. Our motto is: safety before speed."
Michael Korn, vice-chairman of the Management Board of Schenker Deutschland AG, whose responsibilities include the company's trade fair/special transports: "We offer shipyards, chandlers and their customers an all-inclusive global service. For this, we deploy specialists who organise the entire transport from the shipyard by water and land to the exhibition and onward to the final customer."
Along with the shipping industry, water sports enthusiasts from all over the world depend on DB Schenker's services. The company is not only transporting the biggest yacht to "boot 2011" but also supervising the punctual delivery of yachts to Australia as the official logistics provider for the 2011 world sailing championships in Perth. The logistics specialist will be providing pontoons, loading cranes and other special equipment as well as dealing with customs formalities.
