August 5 - Netherlands based Damen Shipyards Group has sold the largest pontoon it has ever stock-built to Canadian marine transport provider McKeil-Malaspina.
The Damen Stan Pontoon 12032 measures 120 m x 32.2 m, has deadweight of 20,000 tonnes and a hold of 8.1 m. The barge comes equipped with a sophisticated ballast system, generating set, mooring winches and a deck load capacity of 20 tonnes per sq m. The barge is designed for complex ro-ro operations and the transport of large offshore constructions.
The newbuild barge will be towed to Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada during the summer before being deployed into service.
Earlier in 2013, Damen Shipyards Group moved 16 newbuild pontoons from shipyards in China to Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Most of the stock-built pontoons have been sold, leaving two Stan pontoons and one Damen transhipment barge remaining for sale. A new shipment of pontoons is scheduled for delivery to the Netherlands in early 2014.
