March 18 - Damco has coordinated the delivery of equipment used to build a refrigerated container factory from multiple locations across China to Chile.
In total, Damco handled more than 1,500 cu m of cargoes in 697 teu. 520 teu was transported in 20 ft and 40 ft open top flatrack containers, and 11 oversize items were moved as breakbulk cargo. The shipments originated from the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Foshan, Nansha and Jiangmen, all destined for San Antonio, Chile.
The project took approximately 12 months to complete. Each section of the container manufacturing plant was completed in several stages, and the bulk of the equipment required special shipping containers, said Damco.
Damco selected one carrier with the best rates for dry-container transportation, and another for the out-of-gauge consignments with the fastest transit times. Damco was also on hand to help the shipper design loading and lashing solutions to ensure minimal damage during transit.
