August 24 - Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT) - the new container and general cargo terminal on the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) - has received the first of two new mobile harbour cranes from Terex Port Solutions.
The model 5 crane was delivered to the DRC terminal in one piece on board the multipurpose vessel BBC Oder from Antwerp, Belgium.
With a working radius of up to 51 m, the Terex crane is designed to handle containerised cargo. The second unit - set to arrive in September - will operate with an automatic twin lift spreader capable of lifting a maximum of 60 tonnes, and will also have heavy lift capacity, able to lift 125 tonnes at an 18 m outreach.
MGT is a joint venture company between International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), the Ledya Group and SCTP.
The terminal was originally scheduled to commence operations in August 2016 with one berth, and complete the rest of its development - a second berth and 350 m long quay - by November 2016.
The crane arrives in Matadi on board BBC Chartering's vessel BBC Oder.
