June 2 - Coscol's 98,000 dwt semi-submersible vessel, Guang Hua Kou, has been launched by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China.

When the ship is delivered later this year, it will be one of the largest vessels of its type, claimed Cosco Heavy Transport.

HLPFI reported in April 2015 that a steel cutting ceremony had been held for the new semi-submersible ship.

The purpose-built heavy lift vessel has a large open deck measuring 211.2 m x 68 m, which is capable of transporting large offshore structures, semi-submersible rigs and jack-up rigs.

The ship will be able to submerge 16 m and load cargo from the stern or the side.

In August 2016 Coscol signed a contract with Shell Offshore, which will see it transport the company's 41,165-tonne Appomattox platform from South Korea to Texas on board Guang Hua Kou.
