November 28 - At the New Port of Huangpu, China, Cosco Shipping successfully loaded a 474-tonne ferry on board its multipurpose heavy lift vessel, Da Liang.
Cosco Shipping claims that the 16,000 cu m lift is the largest single lift ever performed by one of its vessels.
The ferry - a double ended aluminum catamaran measuring 78.4 m in length, 14.8 m wide and 13.8 m high with a capacity of 2,000 passengers - is being shipped to Brazil. When operational, the ferry will carry passengers between Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, and provide extra capacity for the 2016 Olympic Games.
To ensure a safe loading and smooth transportation, Cosco Shipping's technical engineers started work on the loading plan almost 18 months ago.
