July 17 - Spain based Project Cargo Network (PCN) member Coordinadora Internacional de Cargas has moved a 247 tonne turbine through the city streets of Seville.
The company was tasked with transporting heavy components arriving at the port of Seville to the Arenales thermo-solar plant in Morón de la Frontera, approximately 70 km away.
"The difficult part of this transport was that it was awarded at very short notice, just one week before the cargo arrived at Seville Port," said Coordinadora Internacional's Arancha Ruiz.
Once loaded onto a heavy-duty truck the shipment measured 5.78 m tall. Due to the dimensions of the convoy, Coordinadora had to prepare a detailed route survey up to the final Morón de la Frontera jobsite, accounting for obstacles en route.
This included obtaining permits from the relevant authorities and town halls along the route, removing possible obstacles and difficulties on the road such as traffic lights and signs, organising electricity shutdowns where the consignment could touch high voltage cables, and cut back some trees.
The shipment was transported through the Seville streets during nighttime hours. Coordinadora had to ensure everything was repaired and back to normal in time for the next morning, to minimise any traffic disruption.
