July 18 - South Africa's Competition Commission has launched an investigation against state-owned port operator Transnet for excessive pricing and exclusionary practices, in contravention with section 8 of the Competition Act.
In a statement the Competition Commission says that its investigation emanates from information indicating that the South African port operator charges much higher than the global average, as well as information indicating that Transnet is giving preferential treatment to certain customers.
A full investigation will be conducted to assess whether or not Transnet has contravened the Competition Act as alleged, added the statement.
