December 8 - Fagioli utilised Cometto trailers to transport the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Santa Lucia from Germany to Italy.
The TBM was loaded on trailers and delivered to the river port at Kehl. The components were barged on the Rhine to Rotterdam, where they were transhipped on to a dedicated heavy lift ship destined for the Port of Ravenna, Italy.
Upon arrival in Italy, the sections were loaded on 0ED series Cometto light modular trailers and Cometto 1MS heavy-duty modular trailers, ready to be hauled 165 km to Barberino di Mugello, the final destination.
The trailer combinations ranged in length from 28 m to 68 m, with weights between 180 and 480 tonnes. The convoys were escorted by Fagioli operators and the road traffic police.
The maximum permitted speed for the trailers was 20 km/h reduced to 5 km/h in the viaducts. The TBM, after final assembly of the sections will have an overall diameter of 15.87 m and a total weight of about 4,800 tonnes.
