October 22 - Collett & Sons Ltd, is set to open its new heavy lift and port facility in Grangemouth, Scotland.
The new depot, which will act as a central hub for Scotland in importing wind turbine components, will complement Collett's existing headquarters in Halifax, West Yorkshire and its facility in Goole, which has handled over 300 wind turbines since it opened in 2008.
Alongside other heavy duty handling equipment, the new Grangemouth depot, which will be fully operational by January 2014, will feature a 110-tonne gantry crane.
Providing a range of services, including the discharge of vessels, stevedoring, cranes, lifting, handling, storage, maintenance and transport of the turbines, the new depot will have its own quayside facility as well as full use of Grangemouth port.
Collett plans to increase its fleet size and transport operations over the next year and hopes that expanding its current facilities will help the coordination between operations in England and Scotland.
"For our operational capabilities, there's nowhere better than Grangemouth. Its strategic location allows us to serve all of our customers who need specialist lifting, handling and transport services right across Scotland from quay to site," says the company's managing director, David Collett.
