Malaysia-based CNC Freight is handling turbine components and other mechanical equipment for the Bakun Hydroelectric Project in Sarawak.
The first shipment arrived from Argentina into Bintulu port late last year. The heaviest piece - a stay ring - weighed 78 tonnes and measured 8.75 m in length by 5.30 m in width and 3.70 m in height.
The cargo was transported from Bintulu to the Bakun dam site, approximately 160 km from the seaport, and was transferred to shallow-draft barges for upriver transportation in order to avoid some 21 bridges.
CNC Freight is working with Platetrade - an Argentine forwarder and fellow member of the World Wide Project Consortium - on the transportation project, which is on-going.
