October 9 - At 340 tonnes, a wire rope reel which was shipped on Clipper Projects' Clipper Century was the heaviest item delivered by its manufacturer to date.

Clipper Projects handled the reel on behalf of Miclyn Express Offshore's subsidiary, Express Offshore Solutions Pte Ltd of Singapore and says that the shipment was an important project for both EOS and Clipper Projects as it helps to showcase the companies' ability to provide cost effective transportation solutions to a growing sector within the offshore oil & gas industry.
The reel will soon make its way offshore forming part of an offshore installation contractor's inventory to handle bigger and heavier structures as fields move into deeper waters.
Clipper Projects says that this was a very complicated operation close to the vessel's maximum lifting capacity of 400 tonnes (when the weight of the spreader is taken into consideration). The transport was further complicated by draft limitations, narrow approaches and tidal interference.
Furthermore, tweendeck pontoons had to be placed on tanktops to ensure proper stability when lifting the heavy unit onto the empty ship.
The cargo was loaded in Tanjung Langsat, Malaysia and discharged in Far East Levingston, Singapore.
