June 1 - Chapman Freeborn and Fiege Logistics Switzerland completed the transportation of out-of-gauge oil and gas equipment from Germany to the UAE, using the giant Antonov AN-225 freighter and an additional Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
Chapman Freeborn's project manager, Christian Becker, oversaw the loading of 153 tonnes of cargo onto the AN-225 during a 16-hour operation at the Leipzig/Halle Airport. Six oversize items were loaded using the AN-225's ramp-loading apparatus and internal winch, as well as an external heavy lift crane.
The largest item handled was a compressor weighing 79 tonnes and measuring over 14 m long. The aircraft was loaded by PortGround, a subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen, which specialises in aircraft and freight handling.
Once the loading operation was complete, the AN-225 flew to Abu Dhabi, via Cairo for refuelling.
Concurrently, 80 tonnes of cargo was loaded on the Boeing 747-400F aircraft at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and dispatched to Abu Dhabi.
