July 15 - In the first half of 2015, the amount of cargo handled at the Seaport of Saint-Petersburg (SP SPb) grew by 5 percent year-on-year to 4.3 million tonnes.
Compared with the same period of 2014, general cargo volumes grew by 12 percent to 3.5 million tonnes, which SP SPb put down to the growth in steel handling at the Russian gateway.
In the first half of the year, SP SPb handled 193,000 tonnes of ro-ro cargo, which marks a 36 percent drop compared with the first six months of 2014. The port put this decrease down to the decline in the Russian car market and subsequent drop in import volumes.
Within the reporting period, export cargo flow increased by 8 percent year-on-year to 3.7 million tonnes, while the flow of imports fell by 13 percent to 600,000 tonnes. SP SPb's export share amounted to 85 percent, while its import share stood at 15 percent.
