October 1 - A consortium led by Transas has completed the second phase of the Bulgarian River Information Systems (BulRIS) project, which aims to increase the safety and efficiency of inland waterway transport on the Bulgarian section of the Danube river.

As part of the project, Transas has upgraded the existing system supplied during the first phase of BulRIS by extending IT and physical infrastructure.

The upgraded system includes 22 local sites and two control centres, both of which are equipped with software and hardware for the effective management of inland waterway transport, related logistics processes and real-time data exchange.

Sensors were supplied by Transas to protect and control coastal assets and monitor inland waterway traffic; while integration of the five border police radars and two new radars aim to achieve the maximum coverage of the operating areas and provide enhanced detection capabilities.

Transas also supplied 8 long-range day/night CCTV cameras as well as a thermal vision system.

HLPFI's November/December 2015 will include our annual report on the world's inland waterways. If you would like to contribute to this feature, please contact the HLPFI editorial team at editorial@heavyliftpfi.com or on +44 (0) 1689 857631.
