September 21 - Brunel Project Cargo has organised the shipment of out-of-gauge pipeline components from the UK port of Felixstowe to Venezuela.
Once the pipe sections had been transported by road to Felixstowe and all relevant Customs clearance obtained, the 11-tonne units - each of which measured 8.3 m x 2.5 m - were loaded onto a 40 ft flatrack container before being lifted and lashed onto a vessel.
Brunel's oversize cargo team ensured that the stevedores and lashing personnel were provided with the correct dimensions and weight balances of the cargo, as well as proper loading instructions.
This was essential in order to ensure that the balance and centre of gravity did not cause the flatrack to become unbalanced during its ocean voyage, said the company.
After liaising with Venezuelan authorities, Brunel discovered that the local Customs officials had decided to change the discharge port of the shipment, which meant that the company had to spring into action to update Customs duties and port fees, before finally delivering the cargo on time.
