April 24 - Breakbulk cargo volumes at the Port of Tacoma increased year-to-date, posting a 25 percent increase in March.
Auto imports also increased by 14 percent in March, while container volumes bounced back with an 8.5 percent gain over the same month last year.
Through the first quarter of the year container volumes at the port remained flat, down 0.3 percent year-to-date at 467,789 teu, but full containerised exports improved by 4 percent and imports grew by nearly 3 percent.
The Port of Tacoma partly attributes the rise in cargo volumes to the strike by container truck drivers at Canada's Port Metro Vancouver last month, which diverted some cargo to Tacoma.
