July 21 - South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) recorded a 33 percent year-on-year increase in breakbulk tonnage handled at the Port of Charleston during its 2016 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
The port handled 901,974 tonnes of breakbulk cargo during the reporting period.
SCPA also posted a significant increase in ro-ro cargo volumes, handling a record number of vehicles at its Columbus Street Terminal. In total 274,426 vehicles moved across SCPA docks in the 2016 fiscal year - an 8 percent year-on-year rise.
Meanwhile, the port authority handled 1.9 million teu during the reporting period - an increase of 1.4 percent over the previous fiscal year.
