July 14 - Despite handling over 108 million tonnes of cargo in the first six months of 2016 - 3.6 percent more than the same period of 2015 - the Port of Antwerp posted a 1.7 percent year-on-year decline in breakbulk cargo volumes to 4.7 million tonnes.
However, the Belgian port handled 3.7 million tonnes of steel in the reporting period, representing a 12.3 percent year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, ro-ro volumes declined by 3.7 percent compared with the previous year to 2.3 million tonnes. The number of cars handled rose by 1.3 percent, however.
