April 4 - Bolloré Logistics teams in Uganda and Kenya have transported out-of-gauge cargo and construction equipment for two energy projects in Uganda.
The two projects currently under construction, the Karuma hydroelectric power station and the Isimba hydroelectric power station, are both located along the Victoria Nile.
Bolloré has transported 12 teu, 1,600 tonnes of steel bundles, and 9,500 cu m of breakbulk equipment to the Karuma project site from the Port of Mombasa. The cargo was loaded directly from the vessel at quayside onto 66 flat bed trailers, 37 low loaders trailers, and three modular trailers. According to Bolloré, the Karuma power station, located nearly 1,300 km from Mombasa, will be the largest power-generating installation in Uganda, providing 600 MW of electricity to the grid.
In a separate project, Bolloré was contracted by China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), the lead contractor for the Isimba hydroelectric power station, to provide clearance and forwarding services for OOG cargo such as the turbine shells and two 85-tonne turbine runners.
Bolloré handled the Customs clearance and transport of 312 teu, 1,400 tonnes of steel and 8,647 cu m of cargo. A total of 122 flat bed trailers, 45 low loaders and 15 modular trailers were used to transport the cargoes 1,100 km from the Mombasa port to the site.
