January 26 - Bolloré Logistics has secured two cement plant construction projects in Nigeria and South Africa with one of the largest cement plant production companies in China.
Unicem Nigeria is a joint venture between Lafarge Africa, Holcim, Dangote and Flour Mills to construct and operate a 6,000 tonne per day clinker and cement line in southwest Nigeria, near the Calabar Port.
The Unicem project involved the movement of 500 teu and 150,000 tonnes of project cargo. Bolloré Logistics teams in China and Nigeria managed the shipment of 12 breakbulk vessels to the Calabar Port, which Bolloré claims was completed by more than 5,000 truck round trips from the port to the construction site.
According to Bolloré the project also entailed the transport of 14 out-of-gauge cement mills, weighing 125 tonnes each. Two multi-axle hydraulic trailers were used to transport the units in one shipment.
Meanwhile in South Africa, PPC contracted the same Chinese company for the supply of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. This project involved the construction of a 3,000 tonne per day clinker production line, located in Lichtenburg, in South Africa's North West province.
Bolloré Logistics was responsible for the breakbulk sea transportation and inland transport of the construction material and cement plant equipment. Bolloré Logistics claims that to date 200 teu have been moved to the site and 45,000 tonnes of cargo has been transported from Jingtang and Tianjin port, China to the plant site in South Africa.
According to Bolloré Logistics, the project started in August 2015 is expected to be completed within 25 months.
