April 28 - BNSF Logistics has acquired the wind energy related assets and contracts of Vectora Transportation - a Chicago-based third party logistics services provider specialising in over-dimensional and bulk cargo transportation.
Vectora Transportation has excelled in the wind transport industry using its exclusive adjustable saddles that accommodate multiple tower sizes, said BNSF Logistics president Ray Greer: "Vectora's tower fixture technology and market position in the wind energy arena are the perfect complement to BNSF Logistics' existing service portfolio supporting wind energy logistics activity.
"Combining these capabilities with our new Blade Runner ocean and rail transport solutions will enable BNSF Logistics to provide turnkey solutions virtually anywhere in the world, with the goal of driving down the onerous logistics expenses that challenge the wind energy industry."
BNSF's Blade Runner service will be launched in May 2015 at the AWEA WindPower show in Florida, Orlando. The new service will allow for fixtureless blade transportation by rail and ocean, which BNSF claims will reduce the overall cost of transporting these oversize components, while ensuring moves are easier to coordinate and manage.
