September 27 - The Port of Bilbao in the Basque Country of northern Spain has started construction of an additional ro-ro ramp.
It will be the eighth ramp at the port and will feature a minimum load capacity of 250 tonnes.
According to Uniport Bilbao, the equipment will reinforce the services that the shipping companies and logistics operators of the port community offer to the manufacturing industry.
The ro-ro ramp will completed by the beginning of next year.
Meanwhile, since July 2017, port companies Amarradores Puerto de Bilbao, Corporación de Prácticos del Puerto y Ría de Bilbao, and Compañía de Remolcadores Ibaizabal have been preparing a pontoon for the loading, transport and stowage of components for the Rentel wind farm substation in Belgium.
The pontoon was commissioned by the French shipyard STX, while the structures were manufactured by Navacel in Axpe.
The first structure, a transition piece weighing 730 tons (662 tonnes) and measuring 30 m in height and 7 m in diameter at the base, was loaded onboard BOA Offshore's heavy lift barge CC Biscay by the shipping agent Toro & Betoloza for onward shipment to the Port of Rotterdam.
The cargo departed the Port of Bilbao at the end of August.
