Spanish ministers have given the green light to the construction of a EUR13 million (USD13.7 million) solar PV plant that will supply power to the port of Bilbao’s onshore power system (OPS).
These works form part of Bilbao Port Authority’s BilbOPS project to electrify the docks. Four solar plants will be built in the towns of Zierbena, Santurtzi and Getxo
The funding was approved on November 28. The deployment of an OPS system will make it possible for vessels at berth to switch off their auxiliary engines, thereby reducing emission and noise levels, said the port.
