September 30 - BigRoll Shipping has confirmed that it has ordered a third 21,000 dwt module carrier from China's Cosco Dalian Shipyard.
HLPFI reported on September 13, 2013 that BigRoll had placed an order for two MC class module carriers at the Chinese shipyard.
BigRoll has revealed that the third vessel will be named BigRoll Baffin. The ship is scheduled for delivery in June 2016.
The first steel was cut for its sister vessel, BigRoll Barentsz, back in June 2014. The other vessel, BigRoll Bering, was scheduled for delivery in October 2015.
All three MC class vessels are designed for the transportation of ultra-large and heavy modules. Their overall length is 173 m with a beam of 42 m, giving the vessels a deck space of 42 m x 125 m.
BigRoll added that the vessels are highly suited to travel to remote areas such as the Arctic, as well as for direct offshore supply.
