December 20 - Denmark based E.W.v.d. Hude & Son has worked together with Peters & May in the UK to arrange the transport of nine barges - weighing a total of 3,080 tonnes - from Nantong, China to Rotterdam on board Saga Welco's vessel Optimana.
Henrik Thejll, director of E.W.v.d. Hude & Son, explained that it took two years to develop the shipment from Nantong, with huge amounts of preparation and discussion required, as well as unfortunate delays in China due to floods, bad weather and stowage.
The barges - the heaviest of which weighed in at 1,350 tonnes - were loaded on board the Saga Welco ship by floating cranes and discharged in Rotterdam by the same method.
