The port of Bellingham in Washington, USA, has been awarded a USD6.85 million (GBP5.29 million) federal grant to upgrade its shipping terminal.
The US Department of Transportation Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) grant will be used to complete a wide range of improvements, including the reinforcement of a heavy load receiving area at the main berth, and the rehabilitation of a barge loading facility.
“The grant funding will allow us to modernise our Shipping Terminal to accommodate a much wider range of vessels and cargoes, and offer a viable shipping alternative to the crowded Canadian ports just north of Whatcom county,” said Rob Fix, port executive director.
