October 13 - BBC Chartering has shipped 56 wind turbines from locations in Europe and Asia to South Africa's Coega Port for use in the 134.4 MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm near Bedford in the Eastern Cape Province.
Having been awarded the contract for the delivery and turnkey installation of the turbines, Nordex selected BBC Chartering as the dedicated project carrier for the wind turbine components.
The wind turbine blades were shipped to South Africa from Turkey, while the tower segments were delivered from Indonesia, and the rest of the components from locations across Europe.
BBC Chartering's vessels - BBC Moonstone, BBC Citrine, BBC Maryland, BBC Alabama, BBC Steinwall and BBC Rosario - were deployed to complete the complex job, which took around six months.
In another power generation project, BBC Chartering has handled the transportation of 130,000 freight tonnes of equipment and components from Shanghai to Manaus, Brazil for use in the Jirau hydroelectric power plant on the Madeira River.
