February 23 - Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has named Ross Barnett as cargo manager in the UK.
Barnett has over 30 years of experience in the cargo industry. He joined Emirates in 1995, holding a number of positions in the company, most recently cargo manager for northern England and Scotland where he was responsible for over 20 staff.
In his new role, Barnett will oversee the 45 staff that Emirates SkyCargo employs in the UK, as well as the cargo operations for the airline's 18 daily passenger flights between the UK and Dubai, alongside two additional freighter services from Heathrow.
Emirates SkyCargo says it is well positioned to carry heavy and outsized cargo on its fleet of over 250 wide bodied aircraft.
It says it has a fleet of 15 dedicated freighter aircraft - 13 Boeing 777Fs and two Boeing 747-400ERFs - all of which are capable of transporting heavy and outsized cargo, including cargo as diverse as heavy machinery, construction equipment, and aircraft engines amongst others.
It reports that it has recently added engineering management in its cargo operations department to augment its load masters and ensure that it can design safe transport solutions for very heavy or over-dimensional shipments.
It adds that it sees this market segment as having strong growth potential for the airline.
