July 7 - Augustea Maritime Transportation Ltd has confirmed that the AMT Explorer cable barge, whilst under tow by the tug Red Husky, carrying a cargo of electrical wires has capsized off the coast of Italy with the loss of all cargo.
The AMT Explorer remains afloat, but in a capsized condition. There are no casualties nor any pollution reported.
Augustea Maritime Transportation has advised that the AMT Explorer is chartered out on a bareboat/demise charter, which means that the charterer obtains full control of the vessel along with the maintenance and operational responsibility for it.
Subsequently the charterer is the disponent owner of the vessel.
HLPFI understands that the cargo was headed for the North Sea where the cables were intended for connection of Butendiek and Deutsche Bucht wind farms located offshore Germany's coast.
The cause of the accident has not been revealed.
