July 11 - ACL has taken delivery of the third newbuild vessel in its G4 fleet: Atlantic Sea.
Atlantic Sea has now set sail from China and will take its place in ACL's transatlantic service in early August. The remaining two ships in the G4 fleet will be delivered later in 2016.
ACL claims that its new G4 ships are the first of their kind and the largest multipurpose con-ro vessels ever built.
The ships have a container capacity of 3,800 teu with 28,900 sq m of ro-ro space and a car capacity of over 1,300 vehicles.
Each of the vessels has a maximum ro-ro deck height of 7.4 m with fewer columns, which ACL says facilitates the loading and unloading of oversized cargoes.
Atlantic Sea will join Atlantic Star and Atlantic Sail, which were delivered in October 2015 and April 2016 respectively. All of the vessels are registered in the UK.
ACL has stated that its current schedule and port rotation will be maintained until all five G4 ships are in service.
