April 5 - Atlantic Container Line (ACL) has taken delivery of the second of its five new G4 con-ro vessels, Atlantic Sail.
Departing from China this week, Atlantic Sail will take its place in ACL's transatlantic service in early May. The remaining three G4 ships will be delivered throughout 2016.
HLPFI reported in October 2015 that the first G4 vessel, Atlantic Star, had been delivered to the shipping line.
ACL claims that the G4 ships are the first of their kind and the largest con-ro ships ever built. The vessels have a capacity of 3,800 teu, with 28,900 sq m of ro-ro space and the ability to carry over 1,300 vehicles.
Both Atlantic Star and Atlantic Sail will be registered in the UK. ACL's current schedule and port rotation will be maintained until all five G4 ships are in service.
