August 9 - Later this year, Miami, USA-based Atlantic Coastal Shipping (ACS) plans to begin a regular weekly fixed-day shipping service on the US East Coast, as well as a regular fixed nine-day Caribbean feeder service.
The first sailings are targeted for some time in November, according to the company's website
The company's president and ceo Armando Bustillo says that the cabotage service will link PortMiami in Florida with Port Newark in New Jersey, with the preferred vessel for the trade being a US-flagged vessel.
Bustillo hopes to attract domestic traffic moving up and down the US East coast, plus transhipment cargoes from overseas.
According to ACS, the service would relieve I-95 highway corridor infrastructure and reduce growing traffic congestion, as well as fossil fuel consumption, contamination and cargo theft.
The Caribbean feeder vessel service would cover the four major transhipment hubs in the Caribbean, Cristobal, Panama; Kingston, Jamaica; Freeport, Bahamas; and PortMiami on a regular nine-day port rotation with a geared foreign flag container vessel.
