April 21 - Turkish shipping line Arkas has made its maiden call at the Port of Hamburg with its vessel Wanda A, which is deployed on Hapag-Lloyd's West Africa Express Service (WAX).
Arkas has been booking slots on Hapag-Lloyd's WAX service since December, but says that the demand has been so high that its own ship has now been taken into the service.
The weekly liner service operates from Hamburg via Algeciras (Spain), Dakar (Senegal), Lagos/Apapa, Tincan Island (Nigeria), Tema (Ghana), Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Tangiers (Morocco), then back via Antwerp to Hamburg.
Hapag-Lloyd deploys five 1,700 teu vessels on the service, in addition to the newly introduced Wanda A, which is 172 m long and can carry 1,604 teu. The Arkas ship features three onboard cranes and can carry out-of-gauge loads as well as containerised cargo.
Arkas is represented in Germany by shipping agent Peter W. Lampke (PWL).
