September 29 - Express Global Logistics (EXG) has worked together with its partner Alexander Global Logistics (AGL) to transport a 130-tonne cable reel from Newcastle in the UK to Abu Dhabi's Mina Zayed Port on board the multipurpose vessel Abis Dusavik.
The reel, which had the dimensions 9.38 m x 5.91 m x 9.2 m, was destined for an oil and gas project in Abu Dhabi.
Once EXG had won the contract, AGL explained that it handled the ship chartering, loading, survey and ocean freight.
AGL's director of projects, Jürgen Weyhausen, said that as the company had loaded similar mega-reels in the past, with the last one handled just a few months ago, the project was completed without any problems.
Considering the urgency of the shipment, EXG explained that it had to monitor the delivery arrangements closely to ensure a time-efficient loading process.
The challenge, said EXG, was to arrange a suitable vessel matching cargo laycan at Newcastle, and to berth the vessel during the available berth window slot.
Last December EXG carried a similar shipment of two 284-tonne reels, which were destined for the 3 Well Head Platform project in Abu Dhabi.
