August 18 - Blue Water Shipping will lead a consortium which has been awarded a USD 154 million contract by Tengizchevroil (TCO).
The consortium, led by Blue Water Shipping in partnership with Kazmortransflot (KMTF), will have overall responsibility for transporting 75 modules and cargo weighing up to 1,600 tonnes on the Caspian Sea from Kuryk to the port of Prorva close to the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan.
Within the consortium, Blue Water Shipping will be responsible for transportation and project management, while KMTF will supply and operate three specially designed Module Carrying Vessels (MCVs).
The new vessels have a length of 113 m, a width of 21 m and are to be built by Vard at their yard in Romania. They will be owned and operated by KMTF, which has subcontracted with Topaz Energy and Marine for technical management.
The contract is connected with the next expansion of the Tengiz oil field in Western Kazakhstan.
Earlier this year, Blue Water Shipping announced another major contract, in connection with the TCO FGP-WPMP project, with a value of USD350 million. Here, Blue Water Shipping is leading a consortium with Topaz Marine and Energy which will supply 15 specially designed MCVs for the transportation of modules through the Russian river systems to the Port of Prorva.
Tengizchevroil LLP is a Kazakhstani partnership exploring, developing, producing and marketing crude oil, LPG, dry gas and sulfur. Current partners are: Chevron Overseas Company with 50 percent; KazMunayGas NC JSC with 20 percent; ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Ventures with 25 percent and LUKARCO with 5 percent.
"Executing transport and logistical projects like this requires comprehensive expertise. During the past 20 years, Blue Water has developed a strong set-up when it comes to complex logistics in the Caspian Sea region. We are honoured that TCO has awarded us a second major contract this year. We are looking forward to this project, and we see KMTF as a good partner in this project based on its expertise and track record," states Kurt Skov, ceo and founder of Blue Water Shipping.
"We see these two contracts as very important milestones in Blue Water's continuous development as a specialist in project transport and logistics globally - and of course especially in the Caspian Region."
