April 22 - Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has launched its newest post-Panamax HERO (high efficiency ro-ro) vessel, Thalatta.
Thalatta joins the first post-Panamax HERO vessel Thermopylae, which was welcomed into WWL's fleet back in February 2015.
Thalatta measures almost 200 m long, 36.5 m wide and features five liftable car decks, allowing for multiple configurations and a wide variety of cargoes. The new vessel can transport up to 8,000 car equivalent units (ceus).
With its new draft, Thalatta can call at ports with shallower depths, which WWL says will increase the geographical scope of its service. The new vessel will make its maiden voyage in the Asia-Europe trade, loading in Kunsan, South Korea.
As with all of WWL's new post-Panamax HERO vessels, Thalatta is fitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system that reduces sulphur emissions to below 0.1 percent in compliance with ECA regulations, and removes 70 percent of particulate matter significantly reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
Thalatta is the second in a total of eight HERO post-Panamax vessels that will commence service for WWL in between 2015 and 2017.
