December 20 - Lifting and rigging specialist AME has used a 300-ton (272-tonne) capacity Hydra-Slide heavy track skidding system to position two 160,000 lb (72-tonne) boilers inside a packaging manufacturing facility in North Carolina, USA.
Evergreen Packaging contracted AME to receive the boilers from a railcar via the onsite railway, before transporting them to their final position and installing the units.
AME used a gantry system and a 500-ton (450-tonne) capacity Grove GMK 7550 mobile crane to unload each boiler, rotate the units 90 degrees and set them onto the HT300 Hydra-Slide system.
The boilers, which measured 48 ft x 12 ft x 16 ft (14.6 m x 3.6 m x 4.8 m), were then skidded under the existing utility trusses and through an alley into the construction site, where a second gantry system lifted the units onto their respective foundations.
